Konavle embroidery, folk costumes and excellent wines
Konavle are situated in the extreme south of Dubrovačko-Neretvanska County and borders with Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. This is the area with special natural beauties and contrasts: hills and valleys, mountains and karst, blue and green. Pristine nature, unique and precious rural architecture, numerous monuments of the millennial history of this area, centennial traditions preserved through the folklore, distinctive traditional folk costumes and embroidery, the harmony of man and nature... all this makes Konavle unique and recognizable. When visiting Konavle it is hard to resist the cherished wines and olive oil, delicacies from the komini (old-fashioned fireplaces) and konobe (local taverns), eating in centuries-old restored mills, visiting the historical and archaeological sites, ...
The house of Vlaho Bukovac, Mausoleum of the Račić family, (watermill) on the river Ljuta/Koavoski dvori... are just some of the buildings and attractions in Konavle worth visiting.
Excursion itinerary
Exursion could be organized during morning or afternoon hours upon wish(lunch or dinner time included).
Starting from Dubrovnik the first stop is fishermen village –Cavtat- where we will have short visit to House of Vlaho Bukovac (http://www.kuca-bukovac.hr) as well mausoleum of the family Racic.
Leaving Cavtat we will continue road to Ćilipi region but on its way we will stop to vinary „Crvik“ which is just 10 mins ride from Cavtat.
After the wine taste road brings us to Gruda( 10 mins ride from „Crvik)where is famous galery of the academic painter Antonija Ruskovic ( doughter of the Croatian ex Ministry of Tourism) (http://antoniaruskovic.com/hr/).
After the sightseeing we continue 5 mins ride to restaurant „Konavoski Dvori“ where we will stop to see old mills walking by the river .„Konavoski Dvori“ offers us home made specialites and delicacies such is meat or octopus under the bell or even other fish or meat menues.
On the way back we will visit the hill Srđ, an excellent place for panoramic view and coffee, and it is also possible to visit the War Museum in the Imperial fortres(it you are not so tired). |
