Symbol of Croatian resistance in defense of the homeland
During the Ottoman conquest in these regions, the town of Klis played an important role. The Klis Fortress, one of the most eminent fortresses on the Croatian soil, had a very important defensive position due to its strategic importance. Peter Kružić, the contemporary captain and prince of the town, resisted the Turkish attacks with his Uskoks (Croatian Habsburg soldiers) for almost two and a half decades, defending successfully the Croatian territory.
